BELIZE CITY, BELIZE — Dimitra Incorporated, and its partner Loys Technologies, have received a contract from the National Animal Genetic Resources Centre & Data Base (NAGRC&DB), a governmental organization focused on the transformation of the agricultural sector by enhancing sustainable livestock productivity through conservation and improvement of animal genetic resource. Loys Technologies is Dimitra’s partner delivering advanced agriculture software systems and support to the Uganda government and Industry.

Dimitra is working with NAGRC & DB to deploy Dimitra’s on the development, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of their Integrated web-based Livestock Information Management System (ILIMS) for the collection, generation, transmission, processing, storage, tracking, and reporting of information related to animal breeding, production, conservation, commercialization, and non-tax revenue generation.

The Livestock Platform

The platform provides access to real-time and accurate information to enable its users to become more empowered and enlightened about available genetic and breeding resources for improved livestock productivity. It also acts as a repository for livestock data like livestock breeding, production, and health records. That data provides efficiency in analyzing/interpreting performance records and a day-to-day action list for the efficient management of herds.

This system will perform the following services:

  • Manage breeding records
  • Provide for analysis and interpretation of breeding and genetic records
  • Provide information on the development of stud
  • Compile and avail reproduction information
  • Design & produce information packages

The Future of Livestock

Cooperatively, Dimitra and NAGRC will help the smallholder farmers in Uganda improve animal genetic breeds, reduce livestock disease burden, and reduce animal theft and smuggling. They will also improve the health and welfare of consumers of animal products such as meat and milk and increase revenue due to increased access to quality markets for animals and their products.

Jon Trask, CEO of Dimitra, says, “technology is enhancing Agriculture in so many great ways. Collecting information about livestock is one way to impact the revenue and costs associated with raising livestock. Coupling that with genetic and genomic information and weaving in machine learning capabilities helps governments, corporations, and farmers make better decisions. We also make an impact on food safety and security by partnering with great organizations like NAGRC.”

Dimitra is a global Agtech company with a mission to help smallholder farmers across the world. Dimitra works with governments, government agencies, NGOs, and for-profit organizations. The Dimitra platform is built on blockchain technology and incorporates mobile technology, machine learning, IoT devices, satellite and drone imagery, genomics, and advanced farming research. Through our data-driven approach, Dimitra helps farmers increase yields, reduces expenses, and mitigates risk. Dimitra believes that every smallholder farmer should benefit from simple, beautiful, and useful technology regardless of economic standing.

The National Animal Genetic Resources Centre and Data Bank (NAGRC&DB) was established by the Animal Breeding Act of 2001. It’s one of the statutory semi-autonomous bodies of the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF). The formation of NAGRC&DB was part of the fulfillment of the aspirations in the National Animal Breeding Policy (1997) document and the Action Plan for its implementation, providing guidelines to all actors in the animal breeding and production value-chain.
